I’m with Shell Energy too and decided to cancel my direct debit since the amount had more than tripled. Then, out of nowhere, I started getting texts from this Zinc debt management firm. They’ve been calling non stop for the past week. I only owe a little bit, so now I’m wary of these lot. Cheers for the advice, everyone.

I've been receiving constant calls from this particular number, and I suspect it might be linked to some sort of scam. I've also been inundated with text messages and emails claiming to be from Shell Broadband regarding an unpaid bill. The thing is, I've never even had an account with them! Shell has informed me that they've passed the supposed debt onto the company that's been ringing me, insisting I settle it. It's all rather dodgy if you ask me!

Got a text from 07860 078 928 claiming to be Shell Energy saying my account’s been sent to Zinc Debt Collectors. I’ve never had any account with Shell Energy ever. This is the third time they’ve messaged me. I’ve reported it to the National Cyber Security Service. Most mobile networks let you report dodgy texts for free by forwarding them to 7726. When you do this, your provider looks into where the message came from and can block or ban the sender if it’s a scam.

WATCH OUT! Got calls from scammers saying I owe money to Shell Energy through some Zinc collections group. I haven’t been with Shell Energy for more than 3 years now. Feels like someone who used to work there might have got hold of their customer info to trick and threaten old customers, making up debts that don’t exist even if you switched energy suppliers ages ago. No idea. This is the second time in two weeks I’ve had a call like this. I’ve got no links to anyone or any companies in Glasgow, so it feels dodgy. Not planning to pick up since I’ve heard about scams where they try to hit you with reverse charge fees without you knowing. I think I read something about the regulator catching some crooks in Brazil faking their call origin a while back. Our useless government never seems to do a thing about it.

this number rang me on my mobile - 0141 328 4673. i called back and pressed 1 like it told me to. an accent that sounded asian answered, and all i caught was something about a warrant. i quickly told him to chill and explain what’s going on but he kept talking over me. when i raised my voice worried, he just hung up. tried calling twice after but no reply. now im stuck wondering if i should report this to the cops, but they’ve probably got loads to deal with. feels like a threat to me tho, not sure what my next move should be.

I tried leaving a message, but it seems nobody's around. Best just to block the number. A legitimate client would reach out with their information and correspond accordingly. If it were indeed a debt situation, they'd likely follow up with a call after sending a notice. That’s how proper firms conduct their debt collection processes. These people, however, come across as complete numpties and likely up to no good.

I’m fully aware of their identity - it’s Zinc SLM. Their central office can be reached at 0141 3011055, where you'll surely be able to contact them directly. I had a chat with a manager who informed me that, being a debt recovery firm, they are exempt from the regulations concerning unsolicited calls. I kindly pointed out that the call I received was nothing more than an automated message, which, in my opinion, qualifies it as a nuisance call that could be flagged. Additionally, I'm registered on the Telephone Preference Service, which means these types of calls are unwelcome and should not be directed to me.

I suspect this might be a dodgy scheme run by a shifty company known as Zinc Group. I’d advise you to do a bit of research on them. They’re known to send texts aimed at fishing for your personal information. If you’ve ever had any dealings with debt, they seem to recycle that information too. Stay vigilant!

I received a voicemail, but the person rattled off their message at such a rapid pace that I couldn't quite catch which company they represented. They mentioned my name and provided a reference number for me to use when I return their call, but didn’t clarify what the call was about at all. Received a ring from this number today, and the chap on the other end had a distinctly Scottish twang. He was attempting to confirm some details regarding my energy supplier and my postcode, but oddly enough, he was rather tight-lipped about what information he actually possessed. I received a voicemail from this number, but I could barely grasp what the woman was saying. The only thing I clearly caught was her mentioning my fiancée's name, which struck me as rather odd. We're currently taking care of this house for a year, and the phone line is registered under the owner's name. So, I'm left wondering how on earth they even knew my fiancée's name in the first place! Seems a bit dodgy if you ask me.
