I got a call from SMS, who do smart meter installations for several firms, including Shell Energy. It's not a scam or anything, but don’t bother trying to ring back that number as it’s just for their engineers to use when they call out. If you need to get in touch, they list a 030 number on their site and in their emails for customer support.

I got a call from someone who said their name was "Hazel" and that they were from Shell Energy. They mentioned there were issues with our new smart meters and said an engineer plus a manager could fix things around 4pm that very day. I kept trying to ring back the number, but after it rang for ages, a robotic voice with an American accent came on saying "extension 3883 is unavailable." After that, there was just silence on the line - no hang up and no chance to leave a message. Really dodgy if you ask me.
