I received a call from this number while we were out and about this afternoon. It was the second time I’ve had a ring from the same number. I’m on the Telephone Preference Service, which usually does the job of keeping unwanted calls at bay.

I find myself getting these nuisance calls about once a month at this point. We reached out to the TPS folks, and they confirmed that what’s happening is indeed illegal. They recommended I get in touch with the Information Commissioner's Office, so I've just shot them an email at [email protected], and I’ll be keeping an eye on things. Perhaps it’ll take a flood of complaints from others before these callers are dealt with?

I received a rather suspect call claiming it was a ‘once-in-a-lifetime offer’. They instructed me to press nine to connect with someone, but it all felt a bit off. To top it off, the voice was clearly an American gal, which only raised my suspicions further. Quite dodgy if you ask me!

We occasionally receive calls like these, but instead of simply hanging up, we tend to linger on the line until they decide to cut off. At least that way, we might be able to rack up some expenses for them!

I received a call at precisely 9:20 this morning while I was home from work. Out of curiosity, I dialled 1471 only to be greeted with a text informing me that I had received a call from 014074780. It’s rather strange since we only acquired this phone number about three days ago. The 1471 service did mention that returning the call would incur a fee, which is a tad annoying. We’re seriously considering changing our number now, as we can't fathom how our details have been shared; the only folks who have our number are our nearest and dearest friends and family.

I recently had a bit of a puzzling situation with a phone call. I noticed a missed call from a number that, when I checked with 1471, appeared to be the one in question. The trouble is, I’ve no idea who it belongs to, and every time I try to ring it back, it says the number isn’t available. Has anyone else encountered something like this? It's quite baffling!

I received a rather surprising phone call today, and although I'm registered with the Telephone Preference Service, this one managed to get through. Quite perplexing, really!

Received a call at 9:20 this morning, just after I came home from work. I dialled 1471 and found out the number was 01407478000. Quite odd, considering we've only had our phone line for about three days. The 1471 service mentioned there would be a fee to call this number back. We're contemplating going ex-directory since it’s baffling how this number got out-only our friends and family are aware of it!

On Saturday, 26th July at half-past nine, we received the same call, but chose not to pick up. We too tried to call back later and were met with a message stating, 'the number you’ve dialled is not recognised.' A little while back, I received a security alert at work regarding dodgy phone calls where the caller asks you to hit a button, usually 9, and this can result in an outrageous phone bill that you can’t quite fathom. Stay vigilant! It's best to avoid pressing any buttons unless you’re absolutely sure of who's on the other end.

Unearthed the digits on 1471 right after it rung. Clearly, this is a new number, suggesting these individuals have been given this by BT. We’ve been duped by them in the past due to another phone scam. It appears they’re only interested in lining their pockets and not the customers’ wellbeing. As soon as our contract is up, we're definitely taking our business elsewhere.

Received a call from them this evening (05/08/08) around 9pm. My son answered, but he quickly hung up on them. I'm on the TPS list, and honestly, I'm contemplating disconnecting my landline altogether since I'm bombarded with nuisance calls like this one. 😞

These robocalls are against the law. Per the Privacy & Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations of 2003, businesses aren’t allowed to send automated messages via phone unless the recipient has explicitly agreed to it beforehand. If you’re fed up with these intrusive marketing calls, you can report them to the Information Commissioner's Office at mail@ico. gsi. gov. uk or ring them up at 01625 545745.

Davey, you might just be onto something quite significant there. It’s not far-fetched to think that BT could be involved in any dodgy dealings these individuals are orchestrating.

Received a call just a mere moment ago. Thank goodness for search engines doing their magic! I had my doubts as it appeared to be a scam, especially since I've never set foot in the States and have no plans to do so in the near future - can't deal with bothersome souls like this on the other end of the line. We just hope they’re not pulling a fast one with reverse charges; that's all we're concerned about. Dialled 1471, and this revealed a twelve-digit number split into four sets of three, which I'm guessing relates to the caller's origin.

I've been receiving calls from this number twice in the last couple of days. I reckon BT has an obligation to identify who’s on the other end and block them. Yet, it seems they’re far too leisurely in addressing these matters. It’s an interesting thought about it possibly being a sort of reverse charge call. I’d recommend that everyone keeps an eye on their online bills too; it’s a quick way to spot any irregularities that could suggest something’s amiss.

Received a call from this number at 11:26 AM today, which we didn't answer. Despite being registered with the Telephone Preference Service, these pesky calls manage to sneak through occasionally. Honestly, going along with what Patricia mentioned, it's utterly bonkers! I reckon it ought to be a criminal offence to bombard people with calls featuring pre-recorded messages for promotions or scams. Considering the so-called 'Special Relationship' with the States, one would hope for more than just arms deals and conflict; a little more consideration would be nice!

The phone rang at precisely 8:58, and an automated voice chimed in with "Congratulations." I promptly hung up.
