No answer when I picked up! Definitely feels like a scam!

On Wednesday 11th Nov, I looked up 1471 after getting a call from 01396 590488 earlier that day. No voicemail was left, and after searching the area code online, I’m pretty sure I don’t know anyone from there. Feels like it was just another scam attempt to me.

Got a call from 01396 539 424 the other day, some bloke with a really deep, serious voice saying he was from BT. He sounded all official and was trying to scare me by saying my broadband had been hacked. Total scam, don’t fall for it and definitely don’t answer back!

Got a call from 01396 753402, some lady's voice on the recording talking about my credit card. Felt a bit dodgy.

Don’t pick up 01396 729915, it’s a total scam. Some bloke with an Indian accent started going on about my data being hacked and all sorts of nonsense about fire and famine like it’s the end of the world. Proper scammy stuff. I called them back just for a laugh, told them I was with the police investigating their rubbish claims. Even told my internet provider, Waitrose UK, but they didn’t seem to get it at all. Complete waste of time!

i got a call from 01396 073047, the guy claimed to be with bt and that my internet was at risk. as soon as i tried to ask for more info, he just cut the call. this is the sixth or seventh time i’ve had either a live person or an automated voice warning me my internet would be shut off in 24 hours unless i got in touch. they sure don't give up - totally feels like a scam to me.

Got a call from 01396857898, and the phone said it was from abroad. I answered but wasn’t fast enough, and the call just ended straight away. Seems like one of those autopilot diallers that, if you say anything, connects you to some call centre. My advice? Just dodge it and don’t bother.

So I just got off a call earlier today, and no sooner had I ended it than this number called me back. But as soon as my BT Call Guardian picked it up, the phone just hung up straight away.

Looks like the 01396 area code stopped being used by BT back in 2000 and is now marked as ‘unused’. I had my answerphone set up to pick up calls from 01396-857898, but this one must’ve hung up before it got to my answerphone, since it only showed up as a missed call.
