For the past several weeks, I've been inundated with calls-two or three times each day-containing a pre-recorded spiel. “Dear Customer, you have yet to claim your government-sponsored free boiler, and so on and so forth. Press 2 to speak with an advisor.” I understand that there might be some legitimacy to this, yet it always shows up as 'unknown' on my caller ID, prompting me to hang up. I've heard that they can connect you to some far-off place if you engage with these prompts, racking up absurd charges on your phone bill. I felt compelled to answer, despite the ‘unknown’ label, as I have a couple of close friends who are on the ex-directory list. But lo and behold, today I received a call from an actual number, and it was the same tiresome message again.
