Received a call from this number // 01384-242 838 earlier today, the 30th of September. The number appeared on my screen, but as soon as we answered, the caller hung up abruptly. Quite frustrating!

Is there anyone out there who can shed some light on who might be calling from this number?

The issue of dodgy numbers is a persistent bother these days. Personally, I’ve taken to ignoring calls and allowing my voicemail to do the work. If there’s no recorded message left, I then use 1471 to find out who it was and usually check it out online. More often than not, the caller turns out to be either one of those dreaded "bad numbers" or hailing from a network that doesn’t display caller IDs. In my experience, the latter category is typically filled with pesky telemarketers. It really is about time the authorities stepped up and introduced laws to put a stop to this growing menace. Should the call prove to be genuine, I'm more than happy to give it a ring back.

Received an unsolicited call earlier. When I picked up, the only thing I heard was a curt 'goodbye.' Quite strange, really!

Not the warmest of receptions, was it? A rather curt farewell, though I find myself wondering why that is.

I'm utterly fed up with these annoying calls! Is there a way to put an end to them once and for all?

We've registered with the Telephone Preference Service, so I'm baffled as to why we're still receiving these calls. Just had yet another one from the number 01384242838 today! It's rather frustrating, isn't it?

This number is constantly ringing me, often more than four times a day-it's becoming quite a bother! Installing caller ID comes with a charge, which is a pain. Honestly, it’s utterly infuriating!

My mum's battling dementia, and when she picks up the phone, it really confuses her and makes her quite distressed. It’s infuriating that these absolute numpties can't just leave us alone and find something better to do with their lives. If only I could bump into one of them and turn the tables for a change-I'd love to see how they’d cope with a bit of their own medicine. Honestly, what a bunch of idiots.
12 years
Utterly vexing, I must say! What on earth is the point of it all, if it’s merely a robotic farewell? It leaves one scratching their head in confusion. Why bother?

This kind of blatant intrusion into our personal lives by this and numerous other firms is absolutely unacceptable. The Telephone Preference Service and all those similar schemes are frankly ineffective. There's no way I'm purchasing a BT phone, as I seriously doubt it will address the issue. Sure, it may provide a fleeting respite, but ultimately, I believe it will be just as useless as the TPS in the long haul.

It feels like someone’s just trying to see if anyone’s home, doesn’t it? All you get is a quick "goodbye" on the other end. I'm registered with the TPS, yet these bothersome calls keep coming. It's really frustrating! - Anonymous

I happened to get a call from this number while I was out and about. When I attempted to ring back, I found that the number is no longer in operation. How odd!

It appears to be one of those automated call centre numbers-continually ringing, yet there's nobody on the other end when I answer. Quite frustrating, really!

What a right palaver! Honestly, it’s utterly infuriating. There I was, in the midst of an important task, and I interrupt myself to pick up the phone, only to be met with dead air on the other end. The number looked vaguely legitimate, but talk about a letdown! Who on earth are these muppets? They really ought to face some hefty fines for this nonsense and the way they misuse our phones! It’s beyond unacceptable!

I've had it with this number! I've blocked it after countless calls, and all they do is hang up with a 'ta-ta'. Really infuriating!

I've encountered the identical situation that many others have reported. An automated voice simply says "Goodbye" before cutting off. By the way, I’m registered with TPS too.

This reprehensible establishment is shamelessly marketing Staffordshire Bull Terriers as mere home security devices, without a care for their well-being. Absolutely despicable!

I’ve received a barrage of calls while I’ve been out and a couple more since I got back home, but I couldn’t be bothered to pick up. After going through some of the comments, I realise I’m not alone in this - I’m also registered with the Telephone Preference Service. Consequently, I’ve added this number to my call blocking list. Why must we tolerate these nuisances? It’s high time they faced hefty penalties and were compelled to compensate all of us who have to invest in call-blocking technology just to enjoy a bit of tranquility.

What a persistent annoyance this phone number is! It rings multiple times daily, and each time, a robotic voice chimes in with a dismissive 'goodbye' before hanging up. It’s becoming increasingly frustrating!

I just had a call from this number, and they pretended to be a security firm promoting some sort of awareness initiative.

I received a call earlier today from this number. The chap on the line claimed to represent "Security Hub UK" and mentioned that they were running a promotion where they were giving away free security gear valued at £1000 to five lucky homes in my locality. Apparently, I was deemed a suitable candidate due to my age and circumstances. I politely turned it down, and he didn't take it too well.

I just picked up the phone earlier when this number rang, and all I heard was a robotic voice saying 'goodbye.' This is the second time it's occurred in a week! The area code points to Dudley Stourbridge, so I've gone ahead and added the number to my blocked calls list.

I received a phone call earlier regarding security, and I'm concerned that I might have inadvertently shared some sensitive details. Is this just a legitimate sales pitch for equipment, or could it possibly be a precursor to something more sinister, like a burglary?

I received a rather similar phone call earlier today from a company named "the Security Hub." They were touting a sales appointment to discuss their supposedly free equipment, although they soon mentioned an installation fee. I courteously turned them down and chose not to divulge any details regarding my current security setup. Just a reminder, I’m registered with TPS.

This morning, I received a call from a woman sporting a Brummie accent. She seemed quite keen on discussing my age, as well as promoting some security systems. However, when I mentioned that I already had sufficient home security measures in place, she abruptly ended the call. Quite the peculiar encounter, I must say!

There’s an elderly family member living alone who keeps receiving calls from this number.

I received a telephone call from this number proposing a complimentary security system valued at £999. Interestingly, they inquired if I was under the age of 80. Once I expressed my disinterest, the salesperson became rather pushy, insisting on the reasons behind my refusal of what they deemed a freebie. The tone turned quite unfriendly and they even ended the conversation with a snarky remark. It's quite alarming how aggressive they were; I truly believe this company ought to be shut down.

I recently received a rather dubious offer about fitting "security" devices in my house at no expense-normally priced at a staggering £999, mind you! I politely declined, of course. It's perplexing, really, as I’m signed up with the Telephone Preference Service, so why on earth am I still inundated with these unsolicited calls?

Hello there! This number keeps pestering me with calls that I refuse to answer. Just this morning alone, I received two calls within an hour, the latest being at 11:59 a.m. It’s rather bothersome, especially as I’m trying to tend to my garden. Having to stop, remove my boots and gloves, only to discover it’s yet another sales pitch is exasperating! I’m already signed up with the Telephone Preference Service, so I’m baffled as to why I’m still being hounded by these nuisances! I seem to receive no fewer than four calls each day. Some of these are from a "network that cannot transmit numbers," which I suspect are sales attempts from overseas that are impossible to block. Cheers, Penny Griffiths from Bristol.

I just had a peculiar call on behalf of HSBC, which is rather odd as the exact same number had previously attempted to sell me a security system. Quite baffling, if you ask me. Seems like something's a bit off with this one!

I've just received a call from this number as well. It was definitely a person, not a machine. When I politely declined their offer, they attempted to be quite smart, but in the end, they just hung up on me. What a rude little so-and-so!

It seems I've received a rather automated phone call from a company specialising in home security. They were keen to provide me with an opportunity to have an alarm system fitted.
