Turns out this number belongs to Gamma, who seem to manage a bunch of different numbers. I gave it a ring back but it just went to some extension and wouldn’t pick up any incoming calls. I kept getting calls from this number on my landline and mobile. Turned out it was from the X-Ray Department at Ninewells Hospital, part of NHS Scotland over in Dundee. They never left a message, probably because they’re careful about patient privacy and don’t want to risk anything slipping out. Eventually I answered after a few attempts.

I received calls on both my home phone and mobile but I never pick up numbers I don’t recognise. They left a voicemail saying they’d ring again. I got really anxious since I had a scan done a couple of months ago. I called both my dentist and GP but neither had any updates from the hospital. When I contacted the dental hospital, all they could tell me is I’ve got an open appointment waiting for the results. This is the NHS calling, not some dodgy scam. The issue is the NHS has been underfunded for years, and you can see that everywhere, even in the admin side of things. Sometimes medical records get a bit mixed up or staff might ring the wrong number by mistake. Because these calls are confidential, they won’t leave a voicemail. Seeing loads of people saying it’s the NHS is a bit worrying, so I’ll share what happened to me. I picked up the phone and it was an older lady asking for Colin, saying he was in the infirmary. I was a bit shocked and told her she had the wrong number, but she kept saying “Colin, Colin,” which definitely isn’t my name. I might’ve just hung up on an elderly woman making a last call to her husband or son or something, but I really hope it was just some sort of pre-recorded prank. It just happened and honestly, it’s really freaking me out.

Reading other comments it seems this number belongs to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. But unless you know exactly WHO at the hospital is phoning and have their direct number, there’s no way to get back to them. It’s ridiculous, they should at least leave a message with actual contact info we can use. My daughter and I both have appointments there, so does that mean we have to ring every clinic we visit just to figure out who was trying to reach us? Properly useless service.
