I received a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC, insisting he was reaching out to assist me in recuperating some tax overpayment. Seemed a bit dodgy to me. Looks like another scam, doesn't it?

For the person saying PPI claims ended (17/01/22): actually, they wrapped up more than two years back. Still, the fraudsters keep pushing them anyway!

I got this woman phoning me up, all insistent, going on about “surely you want your refund, don’t you?” It was proper pushy the way she said it.

Got a missed call again, no voicemail or anything. Definitely a SCAM! Seriously, why isn’t OFCOM cracking down on these pests yet?

Got a call from someone claiming to be with the Postcode lottery saying we’d won a voucher for a discount supermarket card. My partner told the guy just to post it to us, but the caller replied it wasn’t how it worked. Then my partner ended the call. Seems like they’ve dropped the HMRC tale and trying a new angle now!

Got a call but no voicemail left. From what I’ve read here, it looks like it might be a scam. I’m going to report this number, along with a bunch of others, to OFCOM. Tried to share the direct link to the OFCOM reporting page but this site doesn’t seem to let me post it. You can easily find it just by searching their official site though.

Got a call on my landline but no voicemail was left, so I figured it wasn't anything urgent. Could be one of those usual annoying scam calls. I can't block the number on my landline, but I did manage to block it on my mobile!

This is the sixth time I’ve been scammed in one day. It’s honestly getting out of hand. You’d think the phone companies would be able to sort this out by now.

My phone didn’t actually ring, it just showed someone tried to call. I was right by it and never heard a beep or anything. When I checked who’d called, it seemed like one of those dodgy scam numbers. I’ve gone ahead and blocked it now.

I just got a call, and the person on the end couldn’t say my last name right and then they just dropped the call. What really freaks me out is how on earth they had the right surname in the first place!

Total scam alert. They had my full details, like my name, address and postcode, but I just didn’t respond. As soon as I began telling him what the long-term prisoners would do to him locked up quietly, he cut me off! Weirdly, he sounded quite friendly at first!

I was under the impression that PPI claims had ended ages ago, so this call felt like a dodgy PPI scam to me.

Claimed to be from HMRC, but it was quite apparent it was a dodgy call, what with all the racket in the background. They were blabbing on about dishing out cash from PIP (as if!). Then a bloke took over the line, but his accent was all over the place; couldn't make heads or tails of him. He kept probing for my sort code and account details, so I asked him how much I was meant to be receiving, and suddenly, the line went silent! Quite the coincidence, eh?

Received a call claiming to be regarding Aviva life assurance policies that needed a review. They requested details that seemed like they should have been in their records already, and instead of saying “pence,” they used “cents.” The background noise was quite loud and chaotic. I ended the call as it was obvious the whole thing wasn't genuine.

Got a call from someone saying they were from HMRC claiming I could get a tax refund from a PPI claim I supposedly made. They offered to send the money either by transfer or cheque, so I said cheque just to be awkward. Then I asked which company handled the refund, and they totally messed up the name. Gave me the chills, looked like a clear scam, so I just ended the call straight away!

A mate of mine from Lincolnshire got a call from a guy claiming to be with HMRC. The bloke was Asian and said he wanted the bank details to send a refund. Then he was put through to some woman who started asking for things like his email address. Proper dodgy scam if you ask me.

Some numpty from a so-called refund department was after my banking info, claiming to be from HMRC. The call came from what sounded like an Indian call centre, and let me tell you, their English was dreadful-only got a clearer conversation when I supposedly reached a "senior manager." I managed to waste a good 15 minutes of their time before they finally gave up and disconnected!

Received a call claiming to be from HMRC (how amusing!) regarding a refund of "20% of my payment protection," whatever that means. The caller's English was quite poor. To stall him a bit, I asked for clarification, and he repeated exactly the same message. I suspect it was just a pretext to fish for my bank account details, so I swiftly ended the call.
