It was one of those recorded messages claiming my Visa or Mastercard had been charged £500 by Amazon, and telling me to press 1 if I hadn’t authorised it. I waited on the line, but then the call just cut off. It’s clear these fraudsters make a serious amount of money, tax-free, mostly tricking folks here in the UK. Last year alone, these scams took over a billion pounds from people. Channel 5 has a similar series about scamming, which airs on Wednesdays and can be watched on My5.
