Got a call a short while ago from a strange number, they said they were from my bank’s Mastercard and VISA team about a charge of £600 sent abroad just 15 minutes back. They told me to press 1 if I wanted to block the payment. From what I know, if a bank isn’t sure about a transaction, they usually block it upfront and then call you to double-check if you made the payment. Only after confirming with me would they let the payment go through again. This call felt off to me.

I got a call on my home phone with a recorded message in English. It said something about £600 being withdrawn from a debit card overseas and asked me to confirm if the cardholder had authorised it. They told me to stay on the line to talk to a person.
