I recently had a bit of a peculiar experience with someone from BT who claimed to be checking broadband connections. They asked for my phone number to conduct a verification. However, instead of following through with the check, they provided me with a number to ring back: +44 1793 596931. That "+44" at the beginning left me a tad bewildered. Why use that code right off the bat? The person on the line had quite a noticeable foreign accent, which, given the current state of affairs with broadband companies being absorbed by others, makes one suspicious about potential scamming activities. Quite dodgy, don't you think?
