Got a call at 11:23 this morning from a woman with an Asian accent claiming to be from Virgin Media using the number shown. She told me my internet account had been hacked from overseas and would be cut off straight away unless I entered a code. I told her I'd ring Virgin myself since I was just heading out to work, and weirdly she just hung up. Later on I phoned Virgin and they said there’s no problem with my service (big shock there!) and they've added the scam caller’s number to their records.

Be careful, it’s a scam! Make sure you report any dodgy calls or messages. Just look up ‘action fraud’ on Google and head to the police.uk website. Find the page about reporting phishing and take some time to read everything there. After that, put all the info about the scam into their system, including any website links or addresses you got. That’s how the police get a better picture of how widespread these scams are.

I usually don’t pick up if I don’t know the number, so I just let it go through without picking up. No voicemail was left either. I looked it up on Google and found loads of similar reviews - here’s one more from me. It’s 08:50 on 23rd March 2022 and these scam calls keep coming.

This bloke claimed he was from Virgin but he was a right dodgy geezer. Told me my router was being hacked and if the light’s solid white, that means you’re compromised or whatever. I received a rather dodgy automated call claiming that my Amazon Prime membership was nearing its end, and that £79.99 had been deducted from my bank account. The message urged me to press 1 for a refund, which I foolishly did. I was met with someone who responded almost instantly, and from there, the scam unfolded before my eyes. I probed at each stage, but the caller managed to persuade me that it was all on the up and up. It wasn't until his tone became quite aggressive that I realised I needed to cut the connection. I like to think of myself as a savvy individual, even as I get on in years, but clearly I was mistaken this time. Please, beware of these traps; they could gain access to your bank details-luckily, I managed to escape before that occurred!

They said they were calling from Sky and wanted to know if my internet was acting up. Told me to look at my router and count the flashing lights. Two people, one bloke and one woman, both had thick Indian/Pakistani accents. When I asked for my address, they couldn’t give it - claimed it was for security reasons. Total scam, these muppets. Felt good to waste more of their time than I wasted on them.

I received a phone call from an Indian gentleman, and I must say, his accent made it quite challenging to comprehend what he was saying. He claimed to be calling from "the sky" and mentioned he was part of the technical team, although he astonishingly had our Virgin Media account number but seemed clueless about our actual name. He went on to say that our broadband connection was sluggish and insisted on checking the speed. He asked me to access a web browser on any device connected to the router, which raised my suspicions. After a moment’s hesitation, I decided to hang up. Strangely enough, he had tried reaching out to me yesterday as well.
