The caller uses different numbers to make these calls, trying to appear official but it’s all a trick to scare people. Many found the behaviour aggressive and suspicious from the start.

A man with an Indian accent called saying his name was David and claimed to be with British Gas. He wanted to speak to someone specific, but I told him that person wasn’t around. He then got quite upset and threatened to cut off our gas supply. I decided to check with the real British Gas, who confirmed the number he was calling from isn’t theirs and they’d never threaten disconnection like that. The numbers he used were 01347 300176 and also 01323 315731.
