Another number added to the block list. I thought these calls were supposed to be banned by now. Had three calls within an hour. First was some bloke pushing a monitored security system, so I just said, “Does it stop annoying calls like this?” and hung up. Then came an 0800 number which I blocked straight away, after that a random unknown number, and now this one. Honestly, I don’t want anything at all!

So here’s what I tried on my phone - I grabbed a quiet ringtone, sent it over via Bluetooth, and set it as the default. Then I assigned different ringtones for all my contacts in the address book, but not one by one. Now, when those bloody cops ring me up, I don’t even notice the call and after a while, they must get proper annoyed. Or if you manage to track them down, give them a good slap, why not.

I reckon this number was generated by some sort of computer system and might be linked to different firms than the ones mentioned here. Just yesterday my sister called me on Skype, and this exact number popped up on my phone screen. She’s based in New Zealand, so I suppose this is one of those numbers computers use to get past call barring for hidden or private numbers, which quite a few folks seem to rely on.

Yesterday, my Tesco Android phone showed a call from East Grinstead, which is odd because my caller ID usually doesn’t reveal the caller’s location. It was actually my brother ringing me from Namibia through Skype! I’m curious if this number pops up when the caller’s real number can’t be displayed? Quite odd really. I lost my mobile and used my home phone to ring it until I found it after a few attempts. When I checked the call log, every call except the second one showed this same number, while the second just said 'private number' due to my CLI being blocked (number withheld). I got in touch with Sky about it and they said they're aware of occasional 'Ghost Numbers' appearing. They're currently running tests on the CLI setting for my line and have asked me to ring their diagnostic line called 'Zoe' on 17070 now and again.
