Been getting calls from this number claiming to be Virgin Media, but it’s definitely not them. In just a few weeks, they called me three times! The latest time, some woman with an Asian accent kept asking questions about my computer. Pretty obvious it’s a scam, so I’ve put the number on block now.

On the 23rd of March 2022 around half past twelve, I got a call from a bloke with an Asian accent saying he was calling on behalf of Virgin Media. He told me my internet wasn’t running at full speed. I just ended the call straight away.

I received a rather dubious phone call from a gentleman at a call centre claiming to represent Virgin Media. He asserted that my router had been involved in some sort of illegal activity over the last couple of days and requested to know the colour of the light on my device. I promptly told him I was aware it was a scam, questioning why Virgin Media would ring me out of the blue. He went on to insist, "Who informed you of that, madam? We are, in fact, Virgin Media technical support," or words to that effect. When I mentioned my computer was switched off, he urged me to turn it on, to which I replied, “Why would Virgin Media be contacting me like this?” He repeated his script, and I responded with, “But I’m not even a Virgin Media customer.” That seemed to do the trick, as he hung up immediately. Over the course of two days, I had missed a total of seven calls from the same number, so they certainly are relentless in their pursuit. Here's hoping I managed to consume a good portion of his time!

Then she told me to switch it on, but I said it was broken. Next she asked if I had a phone, to which I said yes. She then wanted to know what kind of phone it was, so I said it was a smartphone. She tried naming different phone models and after every one I said no. Then she asked if she could speak to my son, but I told her I didn’t have one. She just hung up after that. 😁😁

For those telling them you’re not with Virgin, don’t do that - all it does is give them stuff to work with. Once they know you’re not with Virgin, they’ll just switch to some other firm next call. A bloke rang with what sounded like an Asian accent, said his name was something typical English and claimed to be from Virgin Media about my internet. I told him straight away I’m not even with Virgin Media, so what was the call about? He just kept insisting he needed to talk about my broadband, but I kept saying I’m not a customer so why bother? After a few rounds of that, he finally gave up, swore at me, and slammed the phone down. No doubt at all it was a scam. Got the number blocked now.

They asked me to log onto my laptop and pull up some hidden menus to see the security warnings. They also wanted me to open an app and agree to some terms - felt like a total scam to steal our info. I told them I’d ring Virgin Media to make sure it wasn’t a con, but the caller said they wouldn’t be aware of that and threatened to cut our internet for 24 days! Internet’s absolutely fine though!

*****POTENTIAL FRAUD ALERT***** On the 22nd of February 2022, I received a rather dubious call. A woman with a pronounced foreign accent claimed to be reaching out from ***Virgin Media***, saying there was a security concern regarding my broadband service. She asserted that they had my information since they’re supposed to be my provider. However, she continuously referred to me as 'ma'am' without verifying any of my details. It’s clear that Virgin don’t operate from this number, especially as I was their customer two years prior. When I pointed out that I'm actually with BT, she surprisingly cut off the call without further ado. Stay vigilant, folks!

I received a call which purported to be from Virgin Media, but it was patently someone based in India discussing supposed issues with my router that was apparently generating error messages to their server. When I pressed the caller with more difficult inquiries-like how our server data could possibly be routed to them considering we aren't even a customer-I was told that their fibre-optic service somehow covers all UK providers. Eventually, the caller just hung up on me. When I attempted to return the call, I was met with a message stating that the number didn’t exist. I do worry that those who aren’t particularly tech-savvy could easily be misled by this sort of scam.

Heads up! Got a call claiming to be from Virgin Media, telling me to check the lights on my router.
