pps - that’s how he introduced himself. - a really abrupt, bossy bloke with a thick scottish accent that was hard to catch, so i hung up. he rang straight back and started yelling at me, saying i ought to have paid attention and asking if i knew he was calling from a government number that was being recorded. i ended the call again. so impolite and intimidating. this could easily have scared an elderly or vulnerable individual. truly awful! it shouldn’t be permitted. disgusting behaviour. they should feel ashamed.

I firmly refused to disclose any of my personal details, which seemed to infuriate him. His demeanour shifted dramatically; he became exceedingly abusive, hurling vile insults at me, calling me all sorts of unpleasant names. I was in tears by this point. He rudely ordered me to "stop messing about" and to provide him with my bank account details immediately. At that moment, my daughter returned home from a friend's and seized the phone from me, questioning this wretched man about his intentions.
