Got a call from someone claiming to be with BT, asking me to press 1. Don't ever press that button, total scam!

So, I had a call saying my broadband was going to be cut off, but the firm on the line wasn’t even the one I get my internet from! It’s proper worrying how common this kind of thing is these days. Like you said, some folks might get scared and stick on the phone, handing over details they shouldn’t or getting stung with huge bills. Honestly, I worry most about older people - they’re just the easiest marks for these scammers.

The number shows my local code so it seems legit at first, but you can't ring it back. They’re trying to scare you into thinking your internet’s getting cut off in a day. No way would my provider send a message like that. I reckon if you press 1, you’d end up on a premium line or get scammed somehow. Best thing is just to ignore it or block the number altogether.
