Got a call from a guy with an Asian accent saying he was from Microsoft. He said my Windows 7 computer was sending error alerts. Problem is, I don’t even use Windows 7! I told him he was trying to scam me and he just ended the call straight away.

On 21st May 2013, around 7.11pm, I got a call from a number linked to Peartree in Derby (thank goodness for The Phone Book Companion!). The person on the other end had an accent that seemed to be from somewhere in the Indian subcontinent. They were speaking quite quietly and hinted that there was a problem with my computer, calling themselves something along the lines of the PC Technical Company. I ended the call quickly, telling them I had no idea what they were referring to.

Watch out - total scam!!!

They say it’s just an alert call or something about your computer being at risk. Then they try to get you to open parts of your system settings, asking you to do stuff that actually lets them mess with your device or put nasty software on it.

I just didn't catch the call in time. When I checked the voicemail, all there was, was a bit of background noise from an office. It's a pity, I was really looking forward to getting a call from one of these fraudsters - I've got the perfect response ready to throw at them.
