These calls are defo 'spoofed' to trick you into believing they're local from Derby. I get heaps of them, all saying they're from Derby but with numbers that change slightly each time. I'm sure these scammers do this (a) to make you think it's a local ring and answer up, and (b) to dodge call blockers by switching numbers often. Honestly, any business that goes to these lengths must be pretty dodgy and not worth trusting.

Just like the others have said, this number's from Derby and since I’m local to that area, I picked up thinking it might be someone I know. Turned out to be a woman pushing security systems so I ended the call pretty quick. Another one for the block list with Talktalk!

Got a random call from some bloke called "Barry" claiming to be from Vanguard Security Services. He knew my name, which is odd since I'm unlisted and on the TPS. He launched into this lengthy sales pitch about security alarms, but I cut him off and asked if he even bothered checking the TPS list. Turns out, he had no clue what the TPS was. I just hung up and filed a complaint with them straight away.

Got a call from Vanguard Security. They claimed they weren't selling anything! Tried to tell them I’m on the TPS list and asked them nicely to take me off their records, but they cut me off before I could finish. Ended up hanging up. I’ve filed a complaint with TPS and reckon others should do the same - the more complaints, the better chance something gets done.

I recently received a rather peculiar phone call from someone who claimed to represent a security company. They were trying to promote a silent alarm system, insisting that there was interest from some local residents, although they couldn’t reveal any names. This person wanted us to agree to a demonstration in our home, which felt a bit too forward for my liking. Sounds like it's one of those call centres that just swaps out whatever product theyre pushing from week to week, like one time its solar panels, then next its home alarms or something else. They come across as pushy and quite annoying, honestly. If they ring your mobile, just block the number - saves a lot of hassle. I reckon a lot of the companies they represent wouldn’t be happy to find out how they conduct themselves.

A woman from some security firm called me to pitch a home security system, said they’d be in the area the next day. Wasn’t expecting that call, so it took me by surprise. Had a bloke called "daniel" ring me up and he already knew my name, asked if it was me by name. I asked straight away - why you ringing me? He said “we’re calling everyone, have you thought about renewing your driveway or patio?” I answered no and he just said “alright then” and hung up sharpish. Getting cold calls like this on an ex-directory number that's on the telephone preference service list, especially from a UK firm, feels totally wrong and just a massive waste of time.
