I received a rather dodgy phone call today, purportedly from Amazon security, claiming that my account had been cloned. The caller insisted I check my computer for an email from them. They were alarmingly forceful, and when I refused to play along, I was transferred to someone claiming to be from the “IT security team.” Oddly enough, he mentioned he was stationed in London, yet the call came from Darlington. He warned me about a transaction for £700 supposedly initiated by someone in Devon that was in limbo, stating it would be processed if I didn’t comply. The chap wouldn’t let up, and even had the audacity to ask why I was behaving like a child. After I hung up, the same number tried calling back, but I chose not to answer. Soon after, another call came in from a Middlesbrough number. I didn’t pick up that one either. So dodgy! 01642700417.
