The gentleman on the other end sounded as though he was calling from some forsaken cavern deep beneath the ocean - think intense crackling and echoing gurgles. His way of speaking was a bizarre mix of accents that one might label as “regional” on the Beeb, though I'd describe it with stronger words! From what little I could decipher, he was urging me to hit ONE to prevent a mishmash of impending calamities: losing my internet, my TV licence, my phone service - even my car might end up being scrapped! The combination of his muddled English and the aquatic quality of the line made it rather difficult to grasp exactly what crisis required my urgent response.
