Got a text last evening from a number, so I rang it back. The call hit an automated message, asking me to press one if it was me or to use a link to clear some alleged debts. In a bit of a panic, I decided to click on the link, which actually took me to the genuine website. After popping in my postcode, it showed the amount owed along with full details like name and address. I’m not convinced it’s a scam, but I’ll give the council a ring just to double-check.

Total scam! I got an automated call that said it was from Eastbourne borough council about some housing benefit overpayment. Then, they sent me a text with a link too. If there really was an issue with arrears, they’d send a proper letter, not just call or text like this.
