Got a weird call, definitely dodgy.

I came across a Freecycle ad from Welwyn Garden City for a KitchenAid mixer and tried to organise a courier pickup. When I asked for a phone number to coordinate, the conversation suddenly ended. The guy gave the name Pete Daniels ([email protected]) and claimed the pickup address was:

5 Calder Grove Edinburgh, City of
Edinburgh EH11 4NB.

Just a heads up, watch out for this one.

Just got this email from some lot claiming to have a parcel for me. It immediately seemed fishy. Cheers for the warnings here. It said something like: they’ve got a package at their office in Edinburgh, supposed to be delivered to my place at 25 Ridings Way, Bradford, BD6 3UD. Apparently all the paperwork is sorted but I need to cough up £35 for express delivery. They want the payment through a Paysafecard - get a £35 voucher, scan it, send it to them, and then supposedly they’ll send parcel info with a tracking number within an hour. The email ended with a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo about confidentiality and virus warnings but honestly, it reeks of a scam. Never gonna send anyone money like that without a proper check. Glad I saw these comments first.

Havent rang the number yet but saw a similar one on Freecycle in Northampton and stupidly sent 32 quid. Gonna tell Freecycle and probably the cops here in the UK. Seems dodgy, the "couriers" email wasnt right - used BGP instead of £ which we dont do here, and then asked for another 75 pounds! Definitely fishy.

I saw a MacBook listed on Freecycle around Basingstoke from someone called Theresa Packman. She claimed she’d just moved to Edinburgh and wanted to send the laptop through BTS logistics, asking me to pay via UKASH. That immediately felt off, so I dug a bit deeper. I got an email that explained how to pay by buying a £32 UKASH voucher from a local shop and then sending a photo of it to their email, along with my name and address. They said the courier would confirm the voucher and then email me tracking info. The email even included a registration number and listed places nearby to buy the voucher, like Co-op Southern, McColls, and One Stop. The whole thing smelt fishy from start to finish. Really hoping someone puts an end to these scams soon!
