I had a ring from the number 0131 608 2467, but since I tend to ignore calls from unfamiliar digits, I decided to look it up online.

Some bloke rang up and asked for the phone owner by their full name. I told him he’s got the wrong number. He then asked if I knew the person he was after, and I just said why would I? Then he went off on a tangent about what kind of phone line I was on or something - I had no idea what he was on about. I asked him why he was even bothering me if I wasn’t who he wanted. He started to explain but I cut him off, said he was talking rubbish, and slammed the phone down. Total dodgy caller - these muppets need blocking ASAP! 👍

I’ve been inundated with an abundance of nuisance calls lately.

Feeling a bit inquisitive, I decided to answer the phone despite the warning signs indicating this number might be dodgy. Turns out, it was a call centre droning on about a PPI claim that doesn’t even exist! Straight to the blocked list they go!

Looks like this number belongs to a call centre, as loads of very close numbers have been reported too, all just differing by the last few digits. Seems like a typical strategy - using a batch of similar numbers. The complaints vary a bit but mostly they mention robocalls, sometimes scams related to PPI claims. I tried ringing it back but got no reply, the line said not in service - probably a one-way system set up by the call centre, so you can’t actually get through if you call them. Has anyone else managed to speak to whoever’s behind this number?

My phone flagged it as a possible scam, so I just went ahead and blocked the number and deleted it.
