The rather dim chap on the other end cheekily inquired when this catastrophe had actually taken place, so I nonchalantly replied it was a fortnight before his last call. For a while, it seemed my little ruse had done the trick, as I was blissfully free from their relentless ringing for about three months. However, lo and behold, they’ve resurfaced this evening. In a moment of clumsiness, I fumbled my phone and inadvertently dialled 1471. So, next time they bother me, my plan is to say, ‘I had a mishap whilst trying to answer your last call and ended up taking a tumble - fancy compensating me for my troubles?’
