I received a call that claimed to be from the fraud prevention department, warning me about some dubious transactions linked to my debit card. They mentioned that they needed to establish a new account for me, but to do so, I was required to transfer a hefty sum from my bank account as an initial step before they could move my remaining balance. It all sounded quite credible at first-I was even given a cancellation reference for these alleged fraudulent charges. The woman on the line had quite a pronounced accent, yet her name was distinctly British. While that alone isn't enough to raise red flags, something about the entire conversation just felt off.
