He called and already had my postcode and name, then started asking me some questions. When I asked why he needed to know my age range, he just cut the call straight away!

Someone called saying they were from some sort of benefits office, wanting me to verify my name and address. I kept telling them I'd shifted houses a few times recently, but it seemed to go over their head at first. After a few tries, they finally got the idea I’d moved. When they asked where I lived now, I asked what it was regarding, then they just ended the call. I tried ringing back, but after being on hold for ages, no one picked up.

Got a call claiming to be from some benefits agency, they were asking loads of personal stuff about the homeowner, if they worked, how old they were and all that. I gave them fake answers and just told them I wasn’t sharing anything else before hanging up. But seriously, why’s this Edinburgh number, which apparently has a big reputation for being a dodgy scam, still active? Why hasn’t it been shut down or the person behind it arrested, if it really is a scam?

They kept ringing me non stop, and when I finally picked up and asked for the address and number of their main office to verify them, they wouldn’t give me any details. If this helps even just one elderly person avoid getting ripped off, then it’s worth it to me.
