Picked up the phone and it let out this strange beep before the call dropped right away. No way am I picking up again, gonna block the number for sure.

Like someone else mentioned before, there's a really loud beep and then the call just ends. I reckon they're trying to check which phone numbers are still in use, maybe to sell them on to scammers or more annoying salespeople.
