He then insisted that I fetch my bank statement, given that I pay my energy bill via direct debit and have an impeccable payment record. Apparently, there was a supposed credit of £200 waiting for me. I kept him on hold for about half an hour, all the while watching telly. Every ten minutes or so, he would inquire if I was still there, and I'd simply reply, "Still looking." I pointed out that I don't receive bank statements. Once I returned to the call, he asked if I could see the six-digit number on the statement and requested the last two digits. My response was rather straightforward: "Why on earth would I share my bank account number with a random caller?" He insisted he wasn't interested in my account number, just my sort code, and then proceeded to ask me how he could possibly send me the £200 via cheque, claiming that I must have received the £40 discount somehow. At that point, he raised his voice, insisting he wasn't a random caller, but from Energy UK. I advised him to have a word with his supervisor regarding his attitude towards customers. At that, he hung up rather abruptly. I presume he won't be reaching out again.
