I got a call from a really persistent bloke about renewing some washing machine insurance. The call only started once I answered, and at first, I just played along without thinking much of it. But the moment he asked for my card details, something felt off. It was quite easy to almost fall for it, especially since we actually do have washing machine insurance. He asked all sorts of sneaky questions like whether to add my name to the policy, my partner’s name, which card I’d be using - Visa debit or Mastercard - and even the expiry date. Honestly, be careful out there, folks.

Got a call from a guy just now, he spoke really slowly and said he was checking about insurance for my washing machine. I quickly told him we already had it sorted so he didn’t keep going on, and he just hung up. Bit annoying but not hard to handle. He sounded quite normal and could probably fool someone who isn’t paying attention. Best to steer clear.

I got a call from a woman telling me my 3 year warranty on my washing machine had expired. She then tried to sell me a plan for £60 a year, over 3 years. When I said I wasn’t even sure if my warranty was still active and wasn’t interested in signing up right away, she just cut me off mid-sentence. Glad I didn’t give her my bank info - would’ve been a waste for sure.

I've experienced the same annoyance; I've had two of these calls this week alone, both insisting that my washing machine warranty is about to run out, but this one’s from a different number. After receiving the first call, I took the liberty of checking my warranty and discovered that I’m actually covered for nearly another year. So, when I referenced this to the caller and asked who she was and what her purposes were, she abruptly ended the call! How cheeky!

She introduced herself as part of Protection Plan UK, but when I did a quick online search, there was no trace of them. Even Companies House didn’t have any record of that name. Seems awfully dodgy to me!
