I've had pretty much the same thing happen. Some bloke with an Indian accent claimed he was calling from BT's tech team. He mentioned something to do with suspicious activity, but honestly, I couldn’t catch most of it. I told him, “Sorry mate, I can’t really hear you properly, so if this is really BT, just drop me an email.” After that, he hung up, throwing in some words before he did.

Got a call just before nine from someone claiming to be BT’s technical team, saying they were aware of some issues I was supposedly facing. Problem is, I don’t even have a phone line here - i’m with Virgin Media. Was too swamped to get into what nonsense they were selling, so I just told them to buzz off (or words to that effect). They had a dodgy Scottish accent which didn’t quite fit, sounded way more like someone from the Indian subcontinent than Scotland, even though the number looked local.
