My mum picked up the phone since the number looked local. A man with a foreign accent said he was from BT and that they were going to disconnect her broadband for a week to carry out maintenance. He said she could switch on her phone or computer to fix the issue straight away. Because mum can't hear well, she kept asking him to repeat himself, which seemed to annoy him, and he became rude. She ended up hanging up, thinking it was probably a scam. After that, she texted me to explain what had gone on. I thought I'd look into it and share a warning for everyone else.
