this one never fails me! i usually say, “cheers for ringing, but can i call you back in a moment?” then i pop the phone down for like 15 seconds. after that, i go back on and say, “please hold the line. your fraudulent call is very important and will be addressed soon.” then i just leave it and wander off until they give up and hang up.

somebody called me about a supposed accident and asked if i’d got my payout cheque yet, sounded fishy like they were from one of those “no win no fee” firms. i hung up before they asked for any cash to release the money or wanted my bank info. i guess as long as they trick a few people every week, they’ve got enough coming in to keep their call centre workers paid.

I got a call from someone saying they were a ruby falconer asking about a recent car crash I was involved in, which wasn’t my fault. When I told them no and asked where they found my number, they just ended the call.
