Someone rang saying they were giving me a heads-up on govt advice about my council, basically saying they might make me leave my home. I asked a bunch of questions the guy couldn’t answer and then he just ended the call. Obviously a scam, really frustrating and these calls come at the worst times. Got a ring from some Steven Tyler bloke who sounded totally disinterested and didn't seem to know much about the legal fees involved if you have to sell your home to go into care (he reckoned it might be about £1000-£1500?!). Just another irritating cold call trying to drum up business we never asked for. It's a pity he hasn’t found a better way to earn a living. We’re supposed to be ex-directory and block cold calls, but every time you give your number to someone, there's a chance it'll be passed around. I had a chat with them earlier today. They’re a group called EWT, paralegals based in Kent. One of my neighbours had already dealt with them, so I wasn’t totally in the dark. They’re sharing info about care costs. From what I understand, it’s about trusts and legal powers of attorney. I’ve made an appointment since my neighbour mentioned it won’t cost anything. When they phoned me, I went ahead and booked a meeting. A really polite guy showed up and explained they focus on trusts, wills, power of attorney and stuff like that. I already have a will sorted but after looking into trusts I might get one done now. From what I can tell, they’re a proper UK company and their prices are lower than what my solicitor was asking for.

He claimed the insurance would stop you having to sell your home later on to cover care expenses. Sounds like a total scam to me, especially since the Government had to scrap all those tricky plans after losing seats in Parliament. They never even brought it up in the Queen’s speech. Be warned.
