A woman rang me claiming to be from BT’s tech team, saying my internet wasn’t secure anymore and they’d have to cut it off. She asked me to log into my computer so they could fix it remotely. I asked for her ID and a callback number, which she gave as 0800 800 195. She said she was calling from London and gave the name Jennifer Hill, though she spoke with a strong Indian accent. After hanging up, I used 1471 to check the number she dialled from, which was different. I then got in touch with BT customer support, who said they hadn’t phoned me that day and it was definitely a scam.
