I picked up the call, and they informed me that my home phone line was about to be cut off. When I tried calling back a bit later, no one answered at all.

I've just had a rather dodgy call from some chaps posing as “my internet provider,” but funnily enough, they didn't bother to mention their name. Quite the cheek, really! They went on about how my line was compromised and that they'd be cutting it off. Total nonsense, if you ask me! If you come across these kinds of calls, do make sure to report them to the ICO.
