like others have said, this number is definitely a scam. they called me twice claiming to be from bt openreach. the last time, i told the woman that i’d hang up and report the number to bt protect, which i actually did. if you’ve got a landline, bt protect is simple to set up and free. just give bt a ring (no cost) and have your account details handy.

So, my mate gave me a bell to ask about this number, and turns out it’s exactly like what people have been saying here. The thing is, he’s 80 years old and doesn’t have one of those call blockers like me - I’ve got one that stops anyone not in my contacts from getting through. These scammers keep using loads of different numbers, but honestly, I couldn’t care less. At the end of the day, I’m way smarter than any of those lot.

i got a call from someone claiming to be bt saying that my ip address had been used by other people between 2 and 4 in the morning. i refused to give them any info, even though they kept pushing and repeating themselves loads. i just told them id ring bt directly. they tried to scare me by saying my internet would be disconnected if i didn’t cooperate! total scam if you ask me.

Got a call saying my BT account was gonna be blocked for a few days because some dodgy stuff had been done from my IP. They claimed my account was “hacked” or something, then tried to get details out of me which I just refused to give. Bit suspicious, if you ask me.

A bloke rang claiming to be from BT but he sounded really suspicious, so I just hung up. I only picked up because I was actually waiting for a call. These annoying calls happen so often now that we usually just let the answer machine deal with them, then once we hear a real voice, we decide whether to answer properly.

someone rang up saying my internet was being shared by others, went on about some complicated tech stuff that didnt make sense at all. he even tossed me a code claiming it was my connection ID. kept insisting that bt had somehow handed over a 'deal' to his firm. total rubbish!

I received a call at 07:55 from a lady with a distinct foreign accent. After a rather lengthy pause, she claimed to be from BT Openreach, stating that our internet was being compromised. I hung up the phone to verify the number.

I've had calls from this number multiple times claiming to be from BT, warning me that my internet would be cut off within a day and telling me to do what they say. The minute they sense I’m onto their scam, they hang up straight away!

I received a couple of calls from a chap purporting to be from BT Openreach, seemingly from their Indian call centre, creating quite the fuss about my router and claiming my IP address was under siege from hackers. I decided to humour them for as long as I could until I mentioned that I’m in the IT field myself. Their response was rather unflattering, to say the least! Interestingly, I've heard that other locals are getting similar unsolicited rings too - the number showing up is 01291624390.

I received a rather unpleasant phone call - waited in vain for someone to pick up, only to have them hang up on me. It’s quite frankly a disgrace, and I think it speaks volumes about Ofcom’s lack of action and the failings of current communication technologies that such callers haven’t been dealt with more severely. It's high time they faced hefty penalties. - caller: Gareth

Got another annoying call but I didn’t even pick up, not a single sound from the other side, just so frustrating. Honestly, they need to find something better to do with their time.
