I received a call from someone claiming that the insurance for my television was set to expire soon, and they proposed a discounted rate for another two years of coverage. The woman on the line was quite professional and articulate, making her pitch sound rather plausible. Thankfully, I don't actually have any insurance on my TV, but it's easy to see how someone could be swayed by her convincing manner. I suspect that if I had insurance, the next step would likely have involved probing for my bank details. I asked her to ring me later so I could mull it over, and now I'm intrigued to see if they’ll get back in touch.

Got another spam call, this time they wanted me to take part in a survey! I said no thanks and they just ended the call. Seems like the same number that keeps bothering me and I’ve already put it on my block list.

Got a call from a North Wales number but I’m based in South Wales, so I picked up. A man with an accent from Bangladesh answered and even knew my name! He said he wasn’t trying to sell anything and asked if I could answer 10 questions. I hesitated, then he asked if he could start anyway. I said no and told him to take my number off his list before hanging up. These annoying calls from who knows where really need to stop. When will the Government sort out allowing people outside the UK using UK numbers? No surprise there’s so many scams going on.

I had the peculiar experience of speaking with a very courteous woman who had a distinct accent from the subcontinent. She was inquiring about personal information, such as our energy supplier, and seemed particularly keen to speak to someone named Susan. I was completely baffled, as I’ve no clue who she is! It felt rather dubious, as if she were after sensitive details for nefarious reasons. To fend her off, I pretended to be American, then handed the phone to my wife, who cleverly feigned deafness, followed by our four-year-old, who promptly ended the call. Quite the adventure, I must say!

The number had a local area code, so I tried calling it back. It was some automated American voice saying their opening times and to ring back during those hours. Problem is, they called me first and from what the recording said, they should have been open?? Weirdly, the message didn’t give any other info.
