I got a call from this number earlier but I didn’t pick up. There’s just so many dodgy calls going around now. If I see something like Unknown on my caller ID, I just hang up straight away or don’t even bother answering.

Got a call from a guy with an accent who kept messing up my name. He said it was about my computer, but I told him I didn't own one. Then he switched to saying I had a laptop. I told him again I hadn’t got any and warned I’d report him to the police if he carried on. It’s frustrating since everyone can see his number - why isn’t there a way to stop this?

This is definitely a scam. You probably answered the call and got the number either from 1471 or your phone’s caller ID. I’d advise you to go back to your phone and disconnect it immediately… UNPLUG IT. If you’ve had the phone off the hook for even a short while, there’s a chance they’ve accessed your phone system and could potentially tap into your broadband line when you make a call later. Just switch off or pull the plug on your phone for a few minutes. Once you plug it back in, your line should be safe again. Make sure to report these scammers and keep a close eye on your phone to stay protected.

This bloke called saying he was from some IT firm and claimed my computer had problems. I kept telling him I wasn’t interested, no thanks. After a bit, he just hung up on me.

Honestly, nearly all the calls I get are from immigrants (very dark skinned) who speak broken English and seem like con artists or thieves. I reckon the only way to deal with these pests is something extreme like gas chambers because shooting them is too quick and a bit of a waste.

Some dodgy “tech support” rang me, trying to get me to install their dodgy software to “clean” my computer. Pretty obvious it was all a load of rubbish, but I humoured them for a bit before telling them the reason their tips weren’t working was because I use Linux. They didn’t hang about after that! Classic.
