Since I’m deaf, pretty much nobody genuine ever rings me up. So usually, I just figure it’s a scam.

I received a rather peculiar call from someone who seemed to have quite a robust Indian accent. They were well aware of my personal details-my name and address, which struck me as rather unsettling. The caller claimed that there was a refund of approximately £149 owed to me due to an error concerning my kitchen appliances. When I mentioned that I preferred the money to be sent via cheque, she continued to press for the name on my debit card. I found this quite alarming and firmly stated that any funds due should be redirected as a donation to charity instead. It was at this point that our conversation ended rather suddenly.

Got a call from a guy with an Indian accent saying he was from Virgin Media, asking if my internet had been slow the past couple of days. I told him it wasn’t slow at all, and then he just hung up. Looks like one of those scams where they try to get you to say yes or no for recording or something. The weird part is, he called from a Virgin Media number. Lucky for me, I actually work at Virgin Media, so I’ve sent the number straight to our Cybersecurity team to look into.

This number called me saying it was about my BT broadband. When I told 'Rose' that I don’t actually have BT internet, she got irritable and insisted that I did. I tried explaining again that we aren’t with BT, but she started raising her voice, telling me to Google BT and check facts myself. She wasn’t interested in what I said and just hung up on me. We’re on a separate fibre line with 1GB speed, nothing to do with BT at all. Sounds like something BT can only wish to have!

He claimed he was calling from BT, but since I’m registered with the telephone preference service, I asked to chat with the manager. He then said he was the manager himself. When I pushed back, pointing out that we both knew exactly what sort of call this was, he bizarrely started making rude comments about me and told me to take a look in the mirror. Quite a strange experience!

I received a rather peculiar phone call earlier today. The chap on the line, speaking with a distinct Asian accent, claimed to represent Virgin Media. He insisted my computer had been compromised and urged me to press the Windows R key to gain access to administrative functions. Strangely enough, he had my surname, which raised a few eyebrows. When I suggested that he send me a letter regarding any Virgin-related matters, he abruptly ended the call. To add to the bizarre turn of events, I got a second call less than an hour later-this time from Tesco Bank, inquiring about a certain Daniel Ward. Quite the morning for unsolicited communications, wouldn’t you say?

Some bloke said his name was Brian Smith but he definitely didn’t sound anything like he was from Burnley, or anywhere in England really - sounded more like he was speaking Asian English. I told him I wasn’t buying it and tried to end the call because I was tied up with something. Then, guess what? They rang me claiming to be from Sky, saying there was an attempt to hack into my WiFi. I told them I'd end the call and ring Sky myself to verify, but then they just dropped the call out of nowhere.

Got a call from this number earlier today. The lady asked if she’d got the right person. I asked who she was, and then she just went quiet and ended the call. Says a lot really.

Someone rang me from 01132947987, talking about my computer. I said straight away I wasn’t convinced it was legit. The guy said he was from Microsoft’s Norton Department or something like that. Then he warned me he was going to block my computer. I ended the call, but he phoned me back right away on 01282715531, pushing the same story and trying to scare me about my computer use.

I received a call from a woman who purported to represent BT, and she was eager to discuss possible reductions on my bill. However, when she requested my postcode, the one she had was completely off the mark, so I decided to hang up the phone.

Just the typical "your computer has been hacked" spiel. When I chuckled and mentioned my four-decade-long career in tech, the individual on the line turned nasty, and I picked up some rather colourful phrases in Arabic-might have been Hindi, though. Quite the education, I must say!

Didn’t pick up, just the typical scam nonsense. Got a call from London recently, did chat a bit but they never asked for any personal info or security checks. Tried to pitch some office deal that sounded way too good to be real.

Some bloke rang me sayin he was from Sky and that there was some issue with my internet in my area. He didn’t know my name or anything about my account and when I pointed out he should have that info if he was legit, he just ended the call. Definitely wasn’t Sky.

This morning, a call came through on my home phone, and the bloke on the other end claimed to be from Microsoft. He mentioned something about my computer, but I had to tell him that I don’t own one! I politely expressed my gratitude for his call and then hung up. If he truly worked for Microsoft, then I must be related to royalty!

Got a call from a guy with an Asian accent saying he was from Sky about some issue with my internet router. Since I’m a Sky customer, I asked him for my name, thinking he’d know it if the call was legit. Obviously it wasn’t a real call cos he couldn’t answer and just ended the call right away. I’ve blocked the number and told the proper authorities. Watch out for this one!

I kept getting calls from this number where the person claimed to be from Microsoft, saying my computer was hacked and giving some Reading address. I told him to stop and hung up, but then he kept ringing back like three or four times using different numbers each time. I just ignored the later ones. Honestly, best advice is just don’t pick up if this number pops up.

This number called me and some woman with an Asian accent was trying to trick me and steal info. 😠😨 She told me to open something on my phone or computer and follow her instructions. Who’d be silly enough to actually do that?! 😒 When I told her I wasn’t going to do it, she got all nasty and rude. Honestly, just hang up if you get a call from this number, it’s a total scam.

I received a rather alarming call from 012782715531, claiming that my computer had been compromised and was allegedly being misused. They insisted I verify my name and address, and they also wanted me to look at my Microsoft account licence details. I asked if they could send me an email instead, as the chap on the other end struggled with his English. Soon after, a woman took over the call and became rather confrontational, which prompted me to end the conversation. Quite the strange encounter!

WARNING: Got a call claiming to be from Microsoft support. They ask you to download this thing called AnyDesk, and once you do, they try to get remote access to your computer. After that, they start pushing you to pay up by trying to scam you. Be careful, it’s definitely a trick!

I recently received a rather unsettling call from this number, with the caller claiming that someone was attempting to breach my IP address and exploit my broadband connection. The person on the other end had a distinctly American accent and persistently referred to me as 'Ma'am.' She inquired about the devices I had connected to my router and how many indicator lights were currently illuminated. It got a bit dicey when she asked whether I had my mobile phone handy to supposedly block and change my IP address. Naturally, I grew suspicious and mentioned that if I contacted Sky's technical support myself, they’d be able to confirm the situation. To which she casually affirmed my suggestion. When I pressed her for her identity, she rattled off a name so swiftly that it escaped me before she abruptly hung up! Just a heads up, as I nearly fell prey to a scam from Three network last year. Stay vigilant!

Classic scam call. After a brief silence, some guy asks if you’re Mr/Mrs XXXX but completely butchers the name. I just put the phone down and walked away. Feels risky since they’re clearly using private info without asking.
