This tactic has been reported to happen multiple times with persistence from the scammers.

They start by ringing you from a mobile, then later call from a landline pretending to be EE. They say you’re getting freebies like an Apple Watch or Galaxy Buds for being a loyal customer, then somehow get into your EE app and order an iPhone in your name. Afterwards, they change your password and email so you can’t get back in. They keep calling every day to check if the ‘gift’ has arrived, then tell you to send the iPhone back because it was the wrong one - but the return address they give isn’t even linked to EE. Meanwhile, you're left with a brand new iPhone bill to pay. If you’ve had something like this happen, ring EE straight away; they can cancel the order and lock your account temporarily.
