Somebody rang claiming to be from Amazon, sounded like he might’ve been Indian and was really hard to make out. He asked if I’d made a £750 purchase the day before. I told him I thought Amazon wouldn’t ring me up like that and asked for his phone number so I could check. He gave me 02081336660, which didn’t match a usual local number around here. When I probed about it, he just hung up on me straight away. Looks like scammers pretending to be Amazon are using local codes now - watch out and don’t fall for it.

Got a ring from a number that seemed local. The caller claimed to be from Amazon, asking if I’d recently purchased something for £750. I was a bit suspicious and asked if Amazon really uses local numbers to call customers. They then gave me a different 020 number but as soon as I questioned that, they just hung up on me.
