I got an automated message saying they were following up on a £600 transaction made with my Mastercard to an overseas account just a quarter of an hour ago. They told me to 'Press 1' to either confirm or cancel the payment. Luckily, we don’t own a Mastercard, but I quickly logged into our bank accounts to check and found no such £600 payment. The thing that made me doubtful was that the message never mentioned which bank it was coming from. Anyone with a Mastercard might easily fall for this as it sounds very convincing and official.
