someone rang claiming to be from bt openreach, saying there was a fault with my phone line. i hadn’t actually reported any issues, and everything seemed fine on my end. he asked if he could link a bt server to my laptop to run some checks. i told him that sounded risky and asked for his contact number so i could call back. he said he gets why i was worried, but insisted that’s the only method to find the fault.

I got a call from a robot voice saying it was from TalkTalk and that there was an issue with my account. They warned my service would be cut off the next day if I didn’t pay up. I just ended the call straight away and haven’t had any more calls like that since.
