I let them know that I had a mishap and proceed to recount the tale of how the sleek sports car I was travelling in ended up flipping over, necessitating a dramatic extraction and a speedy dash to the hospital. When they inquire about the date, I turn the question back to them since they seem to already have the answer. If they keep pressing, I reveal that it all happened back in '68.
