Got a call from someone claiming to be British Gas, but last week it was from another number. When I refused to chat, they gave me a phone number (011329 80901) and said if I wanted to call back, there’d be a 90-minute wait. Naturally, I didn’t bother calling it. Also tried looking up 01273 807038, but no luck there. I ended the call, and they rang me back three times in a row right after.

I got a call from someone claiming she was our energy company but clearly wasn’t. I checked this site and noticed there's been over 1600 lookups on that number. So I told her, “I’m putting you on block right now, telemarketer.” She just replied, “As you wish” and ended the call. Honestly, she sounded pretty annoyed, so I didn’t push it any further.

This number gave me loads of hassle too. At first, they claimed they were from Eon and kept ringing me over and over, even after I'd told them I wasn't interested. Then today, the same exact number called me again but now they said they were from Bulb. Proper annoying!

this number has called me over 20 times pretending to be from opus. when i mentioned i got cheaper deals on money supermarket, the guy said his manager would ring me after her meeting. afterwards, i received about a dozen calls from a woman in blackpool saying she was from energy saver and that the first caller wasn’t really with opus but somehow linked to them. can you believe it? then the original number from brighton called again, this time saying he actually worked for money supermarket! such a confusing mess.

Got a call supposedly from Eon, but I could tell it was dodgy straight away. They kept mixing up my postcode with a different one, and this woman reading a script sounded like English wasn’t her first language. When I called it out as a scam and said they were ripping people off, she actually tried to defend herself a bit before hanging up. Luckily, I have a password set with Eon that anyone has to give before I chat about my bills - she didn’t know about that, but it was a handy excuse to cut things short.

Someone rang claiming to be from my energy provider but then went on to ask me who supplied my energy. Got a call from someone saying they were from SSE, saying there’d been a mix-up with the meter readings at my workplace. They said the meter reader had taken the wrong reading and were trying to fix our account. Felt like a scam to me! Their questions were weird and they kept asking the same stuff over again when I said I wasn’t giving out any info since they should have it anyway. They did know our meter number though, and sounded pretty convincing at first.

This morning, I got a call at work from 01273 807038 saying they were Scottish Power. Just like the other calls I've read about here, the person said there was a mix-up with our meter readings and needed to double-check our postcode (which she clearly already had) along with the meter supply number. I told her if there was any mistake with the readings, she should send it in writing. Also, I mentioned that Scottish Power should already have our meter supply number anyway!

They rang back about an hour later, this time saying there was some confusion with a meter reading dated 17th Jan - but we never had one done. Ended up blocking the number straight away.

I got a call from a bloke abroad claiming he was fixing problems with meters that were all mixed up at different places. He rattled off my address, somehow correctly mentioned our electricity provider, and even knew the unique code on the meter. Then he asked me to inform him when my contract ends. If they were legit, they’d have that info already. This smacks of a scam - they try to gather loads of details, including your contract expiry, then sign you up with a different company behind your back and pocket a commission.

Got a call about checking our meter reading and they also wanted to find out when our deal with the energy company ends, saying they were calling on behalf of them. If they really worked for them, they’d already have that info, right? I wasn’t having any of it. When I refused to give details, the person kept pushing. I asked them to send me the info by email or post instead. They claimed they couldn’t do that, so I told them that was their issue and I wasn’t sharing anything on the phone. This feels like a classic scam to find out when your contract finishes and grab your meter reading. They obviously know your address already, the aim is to switch you over to another supplier which earns them a commission. Watch out!

This happened on 8th March 2022.

I had a call from someone claiming to be SSE, saying we’d been overbilled by £2900 and they needed our supplier number plus a recent bill to sort out a refund. It started to feel a bit off when they kept asking more and more questions. I told them I’d wait for the invoice to arrive before doing anything. After that, the caller said alright and told me to sort it myself, then hung up.

Got two calls from this number today. The initial one claimed to be from EDF, asking me to verify our supply number because of some supposed confusion with the meter readings. They actually read out the supply number so I knew they had it. Then, just a minute later, they rang again to say our tariff is up for renewal soon and wanted to discuss the terms. The voice definitely didn’t sound British.

I got a call from someone saying they were with Scottish Power, which is meant to be our energy firm. When I told them we're actually with Eon, they said Scottish Power owns Eon or something like that. They said the postcode they had was wrong and that they'd been charging us the wrong amount. I'd had this exact call a while back, so I knew it was dodgy and just hung up. They rang straight back but I just let it go to voicemail. Bet they'll be back in a few months trying the same old trick!

Someone rang up saying they were Scottish Power and asked for the meter number on my bill. I told him that since they send me the bill anyway, they should already have that info. Then he said he was from a different department than billing. I even told him I reckoned it was a scam but he just kept going with the same spiel. After about five minutes of him going on, I told him to just send an engineer if they really needed the meter details. Honestly, I can’t figure out what these people are after, but it’s dead obvious it’s some kind of scam.
