Got a call from someone claiming to be British Gas, but last week it was from another number. When I refused to chat, they gave me a phone number (011329 80901) and said if I wanted to call back, there’d be a 90-minute wait. Naturally, I didn’t bother calling it. Also tried looking up 01273 807038, but no luck there. I ended the call, and they rang me back three times in a row right after.

I got a call from someone claiming she was our energy company but clearly wasn’t. I checked this site and noticed there's been over 1600 lookups on that number. So I told her, “I’m putting you on block right now, telemarketer.” She just replied, “As you wish” and ended the call. Honestly, she sounded pretty annoyed, so I didn’t push it any further.

I've had a run-in with this number too; they initially posed as Eon. They kept ringing me multiple times, despite my clear disinterest. Today, I received another call from that very same number, but this time they claimed to be Bulb. Talk about persistent!

this number has called me over 20 times pretending to be from opus. when i mentioned i got cheaper deals on money supermarket, the guy said his manager would ring me after her meeting. afterwards, i received about a dozen calls from a woman in blackpool saying she was from energy saver and that the first caller wasn’t really with opus but somehow linked to them. can you believe it? then the original number from brighton called again, this time saying he actually worked for money supermarket! such a confusing mess.

Kept getting calls asking for details of my gas account. I wouldn't share anything and they ended up accusing me of having "Trust Issues" - well, frankly, I did!

Got a call supposedly from Eon, but I could tell it was dodgy straight away. They kept mixing up my postcode with a different one, and this woman reading a script sounded like English wasn’t her first language. When I called it out as a scam and said they were ripping people off, she actually tried to defend herself a bit before hanging up. Luckily, I have a password set with Eon that anyone has to give before I chat about my bills - she didn’t know about that, but it was a handy excuse to cut things short.

Got a call from someone saying they were with EON, said they’d checked our meter and that the supplier had given a wrong reading, so they wanted to sort it out and send us a refund. When I asked which company they were actually calling for, they couldn’t give me a straight answer. I told them to send me an email about it, and then they just hung up on me.

Someone rang claiming to be from my energy provider but then went on to ask me who supplied my energy. They said it was about some meter reader mixing up readings, and at one point even mentioned covid as an excuse. I figured I might as well have a bit of fun, so I gave them fake account details since I don't even live close to a gas metre. They were pretty insistent and carried on calling even after I'd hung up.

Got a call from someone saying they were from SSE, saying there’d been a mix-up with the meter readings at my workplace. They said the meter reader had taken the wrong reading and were trying to fix our account. Felt like a scam to me! Their questions were weird and they kept asking the same stuff over again when I said I wasn’t giving out any info since they should have it anyway. They did know our meter number though, and sounded pretty convincing at first.

This morning, I got a call at work from 01273 807038 saying they were Scottish Power. Just like the other calls I've read about here, the person said there was a mix-up with our meter readings and needed to double-check our postcode (which she clearly already had) along with the meter supply number. I told her if there was any mistake with the readings, she should send it in writing. Also, I mentioned that Scottish Power should already have our meter supply number anyway!

Got a call at work from someone saying they were from our gas company, which immediately seemed off since our place is fully electric. They rang back about an hour later, this time saying there was some confusion with a meter reading dated 17th Jan - but we never had one done. Ended up blocking the number straight away.

This bloke’s been ringing our shop non stop, real pushy and rude. Keeps saying he’s from SSE but it’s just constant calls all day, clogging up our lines. We’ve told SSE about him already. Best thing is to block his number and ignore any calls from it. Honestly, who does he think he is, making such a nuisance?

I got a call from a bloke abroad claiming he was fixing problems with meters that were all mixed up at different places. He rattled off my address, somehow correctly mentioned our electricity provider, and even knew the unique code on the meter. Then he asked me to inform him when my contract ends. If they were legit, they’d have that info already. This smacks of a scam - they try to gather loads of details, including your contract expiry, then sign you up with a different company behind your back and pocket a commission.

I received a call ostensibly from my electricity provider, aiming to verify my meter reading and inquire about the end date of my contract. If they were indeed legitimate, they would already possess that information, so I didn’t hesitate to send them on their way. They were rather pushy, so I insisted they drop me an email or send a letter instead. To my surprise, they claimed that wasn't an option, which I pointed out was their issue, not mine; I was not about to divulge any details over the phone.

This all strikes me as a ruse to snatch your contract end date and meter readings. They likely have your address and other personal details already. Once they gather that information, they can usher you over to a different supplier, lining their pockets in the process.

I got a call from 01273807038 from a bloke with a foreign accent saying there was an issue with my meter reading that led to a £4,000 bill. He claimed he was calling for SSE, my electricity company, and said he could fix it for me. He had some info but mixed up my meter number. When I questioned him about it, he quickly lost interest. I didn’t give him any accurate details and told him my bill is usually under £100 every 3 months. Felt dodgy! Be careful and if you’re unsure, ring SSE yourself on 0345 725 2526. This happened on 8th March 2022.

I had a call from someone claiming to be SSE, saying we’d been overbilled by £2900 and they needed our supplier number plus a recent bill to sort out a refund. After that, the caller said alright and told me to sort it myself, then hung up.

They've been ringing nonstop, at first checking supply details, then acting like they're from our current supplier because we've switched to a new one. They kept asking for the name of the new supplier and when our contract ends to "close" our account. Proper persistent and really irritating. Finally blocked them today after telling them loads of times to quit calling.

Got two calls from this number today. The initial one claimed to be from EDF, asking me to verify our supply number because of some supposed confusion with the meter readings. They actually read out the supply number so I knew they had it. Then, just a minute later, they rang again to say our tariff is up for renewal soon and wanted to discuss the terms. The voice definitely didn’t sound British.

I just received a phone call claiming to be from Scottish Power, our gas and electricity supplier. When I mentioned we actually use Eon, the caller insisted that Scottish Power is the main company behind it all. She went on to claim they had mixed up our postcode and that we were being incorrectly billed. This wasn’t my first rodeo with this type of caller, so I recognised it as a scam and promptly hung up. They rang me back straight away, but I decided to ignore that one. I have a strong feeling they'll give it another shot in a few months' time!

I received a call purporting to be from Scottish Power, with the caller requesting to verify the meter number listed on my bill. I pointed out that if they had sent me the bill, they should already possess all the necessary details. To my surprise, he insisted that he was part of a different department entirely from the billing team. Even after expressing my suspicions about it being a scam, he persisted with his lengthy monologue. After listening to him ramble on for a good five minutes, I finally told him to engage an engineer if he truly needed my meter number. It's baffling what these individuals aim to achieve, but it's glaringly obvious that something dodgy is afoot.

Received a call today from someone purporting to be from British Gas, insisting that our meter reading was inaccurate. He requested specific information from our most recent bill. I pointed out, rather curtly, that if he were genuinely representing British Gas, he would already have access to that information. I suggested he ring back in an hour. I received a rather odd call purporting to be from British Gas. The chap on the other end insisted that our business had been mistakenly charged for someone else's gas on our last statement, which I found quite hard to believe since we submit a meter reading each month. It struck me as peculiar when he requested to verify all my details from the bill. Then, to make matters even more baffling, he advised me to put a stop to any direct debit payments until this supposed error was sorted out. He mentioned that all future payments would need to be made manually! Quite fishy, if you ask me.
