If you get a call from someone saying they're from Domestic & General or D&G, or a similar sounding firm, be careful. Sometimes they'll say things like “we’ve now taken over from Domestic & General” or that “D&G has gone bust.” These are often rogue operators trying to trick you into buying a fake or alternative plan instead of your real Domestic & General one, or trying to sneak your bank details out of you over the phone. If you’re unsure whether the call is genuine, it’s best to hang up straight away and ring Domestic & General yourself on 0333 000 4966.

My mum got a call from someone claiming to be part of ‘Domestic and General,’ but I wasn’t around to warn her. Sadly, she ended up losing £30 to the scam. She’s managed to contact her bank to stop any more payments going to this firm since apparently, they set up a “continuous payment authority.” This means even if you switch your card and the bank isn’t told to block them, the company can keep taking money out. I only spotted it because the charge came from Malaga, Spain, which seemed a bit dodgy.

Just got a call from someone saying they were Premier Protect 365, claiming to be working for Sky. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

I answered my phone but no one spoke. When I dialled the number back, the display showed it was ‘Home Protect 365’, which seems to be a company with a website offering extended warranties for home appliances and heating. Looks like they’ll probably call again, so at least now I’m prepared. Honestly, what’s the point of signing up for the telephone preference service if calls like this still come through!

Got a call from Premier Protect 365 saying they were ringing for Sky, offering some kind of discount on a renewal. Thing is, we've never even been Sky customers. Sounded odd to me.

Some bloke called me saying our fridge/freezer insurance is about to run out. He even mentioned our names, phone number, and address! I’ve no clue how he managed to find all that info though.

Got a call about my washing machine insurance being up, but the lady on the phone got me mixed up and convinced me to say it was a Hotpoint, even though it isn't. As soon as I questioned her, she just ended the call. Quite dodgy if you ask me!
