Got a voicemail from what sounded like BT saying my router was being used illegally and my internet would be cut off within a day. They said to press 1 to talk to a tech expert. Total scam, don’t fall for it!

On the 21st of September 2019 at around 1pm I got a robo-call claiming it was from BT, warning me my internet was at risk of being cut off because of some hacking on my IP address. They said if I wanted to talk to BT, I should press 1. I didn’t bother staying on the line. I really doubt BT would deal with customers like that, plus isn’t Openreach the one managing the network now, not BT directly? Seemed pretty dodgy to me!

21st September 2019, 1:04 PM. I received a rather curious automated call, with a robotic voice claiming to be from BT. The message went along the lines of my internet being at risk of disconnection due to suspected hacking on my IP address. They urged me to press 1 if I wanted to speak to someone from BT. At that moment, I decided it was best to hang up. It just felt off, doesn’t seem like BT would handle things like this. Plus, isn't it Openreach that's in charge of the network now, rather than BT themselves? Definitely raises a few eyebrows!
