I just got a call from a guy claiming he was with the TPS, the telephone preference service. I was a bit wary but answered some of his questions since he sounded legit and mentioned he’d send an email to confirm activation so I could take my time to check it out. Right after, I looked up the number and found this thread, so thought I’d share my experience too. It did come from what looked like a proper landline, so I didn’t think it was a random cold call. The emails he sent ended up in my junk folder, which I’ve since deleted and I’ve blocked the number now.

I keep receiving calls from a rather insistent individual claiming to offer 'protection against cold calls.' I’m not entirely convinced that their approach fits within a proper marketing strategy, yet it appears to be quite effective. Anyway, I’ve found my own shield against these interruptions: the Callblocker app from this site. It’s been nothing short of brilliant, allowing me to effortlessly block that number without any hassle!

Someone called asking if it was me, I said yes, they asked again, I said yes even louder - then they just went quiet until I ended the call. Not harmful or anything, just a bit irritating.

We’ve figured out exactly who these people are and where they hang about, and we’ve already given all the info to the cops and Action Fraud. Its only a matter of time before the police come knocking to clamp down on them. So scammers, no point in hiding or trying to keep quiet - you better keep watchin your backs.

Usually I'd just ignore calls like this, but since I'm working from home currently, I answered. The guy told me my number was on some list getting loads of cold calls and tried to push the government’s telephone preference service on me. I didn’t catch the company name, but it wasn’t my phone provider or anything familiar. Also, he got my title wrong - I’m Miss, not Mrs. When I asked how I could be sure he wasn’t just another cold caller, he dodged the question and tried to stick to his script, so I ended the call.

She mentioned a website but said I couldn’t sign up online, only by phone. She even offered some kind of junk mail blocker. When I asked for my address, she gave my old one. I told her I'd moved but didn’t say where. She insisted it HAD to be done on the phone. Can you guess her name? Yup, Rosie. I said ask her to call back so I could check the details properly. Anyway, I’m off to block that number now!

Then I went straight to the BT site and followed the link to TPS. Well, this is certainly a fresh take on the whole cold calling saga, isn’t it? I had a rather peculiar phone encounter where someone was keen to add my mobile number to some sort of database that they claimed would render further cold calls illegal. Naturally, I inquired about the expense, and to my surprise, I was told it was absolutely free of charge. Naturally, I couldn't help but question what the twist might be, and they assured me that there was no catch whatsoever! After they’d already grabbed my number and address, I was seemingly “added” to this magical database… whatever that means! Then, they went on to offer me a delightful list of names of people itching to ring me up about services they wished to sell. I merely pointed out the rather amusing contradiction in their proposition. When I firmly declined to entertain calls from each of those names, the young lady on the other end not-so-happily wished me farewell. So it appears that these cold callers are banding together, funneling money to this company just so they can make a singular cold call on their behalf! Quite the scheme, if you ask me!

Honestly, these guys wind me up. They claimed they could stop all those annoying calls and mentioned something about being backed by the government or some rubbish like that. I just said a firm NO THANK YOU and ended the call. It’s always one scam after another with these lot.

Someone called me and mentioned they’d noticed I’ve been getting loads of cold calls lately. Then they asked if I wanted to be put on some kind of list. I said yes at first, but then they asked me to repeat the last bit of their questions, which seemed a bit off to me. So I just ended the call.

I love to just go along with whatever they say and repeat it back to them. After a bit, usually like a minute or so, they end up hanging up, haha.

Got a cold call from someone saying I needed to sign up for this TPS thing - the government’s call blocking service. When I told them I already knew about TPS, they just ended the call straight away. I figured if they hadn’t cut me off, they might have tried to get me to give away personal info to ‘register’ or something. Bit dodgy if you ask me.

Got some daft telemarketer ringin' me again, probably thought I’d listen to their rubbish. Honestly, best thing is to just ignore the call, blocking’s pointless - they’ve got a bloody mountain of numbers to keep trying. Absolute muppets with too much time on their hands!
