Every day my phone buzzes with calls from them claiming some insurance on a second-hand washing machine I don’t even own. They’ve got my full name, number and address by now, which is worrying. I keep telling them there’s no insurance and they should remove me from their list but the calls keep coming. It’s so frustrating!

Turns out this number belongs to a firm named Homeshield Direct. I rang their freephone 0800 line and they admitted it’s one of the numbers they use to contact folks. But honestly, they’re very dishonest! They ring up out of the blue and act like you already have some kind of insurance with them, even if you’ve never come across them before, pushing you to set up direct debits. Their methods are seriously shady, so it’s no shock that loads of people reckon they’re a scam.

Got a call from 01273031482, a guy called Stephen who said he was with Homecare Appliances. He told me my washing machine’s 10-year parts warranty had expired. Thing is, my machine only had a 5-year warranty and I bought it back in 2008 or 2009, so it’s definitely older than 10 years now. When I asked what brand he was talking about, he quickly tried to sell me an extended warranty. I said no, and I’m pretty sure he could tell from my tone that I wasn’t interested. These scam calls are exhausting, honestly.
